As Finance and Administration Director of Campaign for Better Transport (formerly Transport 2000) from 2004-2008 Sterling was a member of the 4 person Senior Management Team where his role was to manage and transform the general day-to-day operations, including finance, personnel, fundraising, governance and the long term strategic management of the organisation. In this role Sterling developed and participated in the activities of this charity and campaigning organisation which specialised in transport and the environment, including being the secretary to the Board of Directors. In 2002, Sterling founded an executive coaching and change consulting company called The Mood Magician which he ran until 2004. The company's coaching philosophy was to bring the power of language, structure and moods to deal with the challenges of change that face organisations and individuals and encouraged a passion for learning and innovation. Before The Mood Magician, he worked for 2 years for Bss a multi-million pound information and communication's charity where he was responsible for the Appeals department and handled many of the major charitable appeals like BBC Children in Need Appealwww.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/, Comic Relief www.comicrelief.com and the Disaster's Emergency Committee appeals www.dec.org.uk. During his time there he initiated and shepherded through a change management and marketing programme that introduced new ICR technology to appeals processing and increased service volumes to existing customers and acquisition of new customers. Previous to Bss Sterling worked in New York City in the business-to-business services sector. He attended City University of New York, Bernard M Baruch Collegewww.baruch.cuny.edu where he obtained both an undergraduate degree and an MBA in Finance and Investment with a thesis on the comparison in returns between country stock market returns and closed end funds.
